Featured by Real Media

Since the web first hit public consciousness back in the 90s, there has been a lot of talk about how it has and will democratise the media. It has certainly changed how we get our news and where we read it. The news agenda, it seems to me, is still being set by the traditional media and the established authorities. It doesn’t mean that the talk was wrong, it just means that the struggle is harder and takes longer than the talk is hoped. That work is certainly being undertaken. If you haven’t already come across it, check out Open Democracy. There are also some new kids on the block, Real Media. I like to think of them as the true inheritors of the Indymedia tradition and hope that they will be able to transfer the Indymedia spirit into web 2.0. I also like them because, as part of their tour, they made a short film about us. Here it is:
